INTERESTINGLY due to the mild wet weather conditions experienced by Perth Hills growers during spring, the exceptional quality of WA Stonefruit was evident even though volumes especially cherries were down on the 2023–24 season.

On the 27th of November, WA Stonefruit/APC hosted a Stonefruit Industry Launch at Yagan Square.

The Minister for Agriculture and Food, Hon Jackie Jarvis MLC, and local members Hon. Hugh Jones MLA and Hon. Matthew Hughes MLA, were aided by Buy West Eat Best and APC staff in providing commuters with their first taste of WA Stonefruit.

Perth NRM Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator David Broadhurst and WA Stonefruit VCF Ross Anile added theatre to the event in encouraging commuters to experience the positiveness of eating fresh locally grown WA Stonefruit.

Representing growers on the day, were Danny DiMarco, WA Stonefruit committee member Mick Padula and chair of the WA Stonefruit committee Anthony Caccetta.

The stonefruit was enjoyed by all, which was supplied by the Fiolo family from the Karragullen Fruit Company and the Delsimone family from Springhill Orchards of Roleystone.

The Yagan Square precinct allowed stonefruit images to be displayed on the digital billboard, which could be seen by thousands of commuters throughout the day.

Media representatives from the ABC, WA Today and WA Business News, interviewed the growers and government members to gather their views on the future of the WA Stonefruit industry.

Social media was highly active, to the point where the Premier and Minister of Agriculture posted comments and pictures about the launch on their individual government social media platforms.

A huge thank you to all involved in making it such a successful day in promoting WA Stonefruit.
