Growers across Western Australia are learning about a new option in crop nutrition with the introduction of Haifa Cal Absolute, now available through Nutrien Ag Solutions.

HAIFA Cal Absolute is a nitrogen-free calcium fertiliser designed to help growers fine-tune nutrient programs with greater precision. Calcium is essential for fruit quality, plant structure and resilience, yet traditional sources such as calcium nitrate deliver calcium alongside nitrate nitrogen. This can make it difficult to manage nitrogen levels, particularly in sensitive crops or during key fruiting stages.

Based on calcium formate, Haifa Cal Absolute provides nearly twice the calcium of typical calcium nitrate fertilisers — around 31% calcium — and is fully water-soluble while being virtually free of sodium and chloride. This gives growers more control over how and when calcium is applied, whether through fertigation or foliar application.

Haifa Southern Sales Agronomist Poh Chong recently visited Western Australia to meet with local growers and Nutrien Ag Solutions staff. Poh said the product allows growers to apply calcium as required without compromising other nutrients.

He added that combining Haifa Cal Absolute with Multi-K™ potassium nitrate can be an effective option during late fruiting and ripening, supporting quality, firmness and colour in sensitive crops such as berries, tomatoes, citrus and grapes.
