Recently, I’ve had several queries in relation to the following: “I’ve misplaced my Chemical User Training Certificate/Wallet Card. Do I need to redo the training?”

IF you completed the VET training after 1 January 2015, the short answer is “no” (please see the foot note for details) if you are asking about it in relation to GFSI accredited food safety schemes in WA.

At present in WA, the legislation states that each business needs one responsible person to have completed the training.

Please note that this could change, so it is advisable that producers conduct due diligence as part of their system reviews.

VET courses such as HACCP units of competency (UoC) for HARPS v2, or Chemical Application and Handling UoC’s for Freshcare certification, are set under a national framework. This means that the courses should be consistent when delivered by a certified Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

When you enrolled with your chosen RTO to complete the desired UoC’s, you would have been asked to setup or enter a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This creates your VET Training profile and from there you can access your “Academic Transcript”.

If you created a USI linked to your personal details — such as your name, address, email, date of birth, and mobile number — you can use it to access your Academic Transcript. This assumes you know your USI; since it’s a string of letters and numbers, it’s not something most people easily remember.

Don’t worry, you can often find it by searching your email inbox. Because an email address is required to create a USI, a quick search should help you locate it.

Failing that, you can go to the USI website and Search for your USI by following this link: www.usi.gov.au/ students/find-your-usi

Fair warning: This can be a bit tricky as you will need to enter your personal details, and you’ll likely have to setup some further security measures before you unlock your USI.

Once you’ve done this, you can create a PDF of your up-to-date Academic Transcript which you can use as evidence of compliance for audit programs such as Fair Farms or Freshcare — mission accomplished.
