POMEWEST pink lady
Western Australian apple growers have much to celebrate this year! To share in the joy and highlight our remarkable harvest, Pomewest partnered with Buy West Eat Best for a fun-filled event at Yagan Square in Perth on April 29.

WE handed out delicious Pink Lady® apples to everyone who stopped by, making it a fantastic day of community connection and tasty snacking.
Esteemed guests, including Helen Cripps, Jenny Van de Meeberg from APAL, Jacqui Kay from the APC, and the vibrant Buy West Eat Best team, gathered to commemorate the launch of fresh, delicious Pink Lady® apples in the WA retail market.
Dressed in pink, the “Pink Ladies” of Pomewest distributed fresh fruit to commuters and students, showcasing the exceptional quality of Pink Lady® apples that are grown right here in Western Australia. This initiative also promoted the use of public transport during the current fuel crisis and encouraged healthy snacking habits.
To further educate WA consumers about the benefits of buying seasonal produce, our story was featured live on ABC Breakfast Radio during the event. Helen Cripps shared the remarkable journey of her father, John Cripps, who pioneered the Pink Lady® apple through the innovative cross-pollination of Lady Williams and Golden Delicious apples.
Western Australia proudly claims the Pink Lady® apple as its own. The WA apple industry remains dedicated to sustainable practices and quality testing to ensure that only the best WA-grown apples reach consumers.
In a spirited effort to promote healthy snacking and uphold the mantra of “an apple a day,” we distributed 900 apples — generously provided by Lyster Orchards — to city commuters, school children, and students from ECU.
The enthusiasm was impressive, by 8:30am, all the apples had been distributed, highlighting the strong demand for fresh, nutritious snacking options among apple lovers in Perth.
The objective of this initiative was twofold: to connect regional orchards with urban consumers and to emphasise the importance of supporting local growers, especially amid rising production costs and supply chain challenges. By choosing WA-grown apples, consumers not only contribute to the state’s food security but also support the economic vitality of our regional orchardists.
