BY GEORGIA THOMAS SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER, WA POTATOES
The refreshed website with new domain highlighting The Good Carb messaging went live in early November, and we will continue to update and refine the content in the next few weeks.
We have developed new materials to start to integrate the refreshed campaign messaging into our activities, including a pull-up banner and teardrop banner, and some table top signage.
NOVA have also developed a new script and production to showcase the messaging in upcoming streaming adverts over December.
The latest WA Potatoes magazine has been distributed, with 3000 copies flying out the door. We also received some feedback from Chef Don Hancey, who loved the WA Potatoes magazine:
“Georgia great to see you at the Buy West Eat Best activation. Gotta say the WA Potatoes mag is GOLD. Very yummy recipes and photographs... compliments to all involved.”
Cheers, Don Hancey”
Social media is performing well with excellent growth in followers on Facebook in particular with over 25,000 followers. Reach has been generally lower this year at about 2–300,000 per month, but I have heard similar reports from others in the industry.
The website has been achieving around 9000 page views per month, which is great. One of the most common pages people look for is the potato variety information, as well as recipes in general, so we will keep on trying to educate consumers about what spuds to use.
Grower Updates
From July to September, WA Potatoes have sent out 6 Grower Updates, which have achieved open rates of between 50 and 60%, which is higher than the industry standard of 43%.
Perth Royal Show
The Perth Royal Show was a challenge to coordinate due to some delays with receiving information, meaning some opportunities were not able to come to life.
However, the show was very busy this year and we achieved around 640 competition entries and a range of social media engagements from people visiting the display.
THE latest WA Potatoes magazine is full of fabulous festive recipes plus healthy new potato dishes to try.

Kids were absolutely loving the potato dig, which is a great addition to the stand.
Next year, we are planning to start organising earlier (now that COVID rules are no longer in place) and hope to create a refreshed display, showcasing varieties and ideally collaborating with industry. We also need to include budget for staffing to enable the stand to maximise its potential.
Meet the Buyer
On Tuesday 25 October our team was at DPIRD’s Meet the Buyer event, organised by Buy West Eat Best. There were over 80 exhibitors showcasing WA food and beverages and industry organisations, with 250 delegates looking for opportunities to network and source product etc include international groups. The event was well worth the small investment to network and make some new contacts. We also had Damper Gully Farms Prince of Orange potatoes displayed.
SEED FOR SCHOOLS
registrations for 2023 opening soon!
Seed For Schools
Firstly, we wanted to thank Colin Ayres once again for supplying the seed. We really appreciate your support for this program.
We have had some great feedback from schools this year, with several providing updates on their crop growth and photos.
We will soon reopen registrations for 2023 and planning is underway for another successful program.
Grower visits and social media content
The team are keen to visit growers on a regular basis to catch up about potato business and our work, and capture new videos and images for social media.
At the end of October, Morena and Georgia visited Bronwyn and Dave Fox to take a farm tour and film Bronwyn creating one of her favourite potato dishes. These images will be shared on social media soon.
